The Westermo Merlin series of compact, robust and secure mobile solutions has been specially developed to support industrial IoT (IIoT) and machine-to-machine solutions in demanding energy, infrastructure and transportation applications. The Merlin series of devices is certified according to IEC 61850-3 and EN 50121-4 standards.

  • Ethernet ports: 4 x 10/100 Mbit/s, RJ-45.   • Serial ports (depending on model): 0; 1 x RS-232, 1 x Digital Input
     (configurable), RJ-45; 1 x RS-232, 1 x RS-232/485 (configurable), RJ-45; 2 x RS-232/485 (configurable), RJ-45.
  • Optical ports (depending on model): 0 or 2 x 100/1000 Mbit/s SFP, LC connector (SFP transceivers are ordered separately).
  • 0 or 6 digital inputs, 0 or 2 digital outputs (mini-RTU functionality) (depending on model).
  • 2 x Mini-SIM card.   • 2 x SMAf ports for LTE antennas.
  • 1 x GNSS SMAf port (GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo) (depending on model).
  • Approvals (depending on model): IEC 61850-3 Class 1 (for medium voltage substations), EN 50121-4 (trackside),
     RED (Radio Equipment Directive), BT Openreach MCT (VDSL - Merlin-4700).
  • Protocol conversion: IEC 60870-5, IEC 61850, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, DNP3, Serial to Ethernet.
  • Cybersecurity: 802.1X, VPN encryption, firewall.   • Secure Boost ensures the authenticity and unalterability of the software.
  • The installed TPM (Trusted Platform Module) stores cryptographic keys.
  • MTBF (Mean time between failures) Telcordia: from 94 years (850,000 h, Merlin-4600) to 194 years (1,700,000 h, Merlin-4100).
  • Isolated power supply: 9.6 - 60 VDC.   • Operating temperature (depending on model): -20 to +70 °C; -20 to +65 °C; -40 to +70 °C.
  • DIN rail mounting.   • Warranty 5 years (Merlin-4100 3 years).

Westermo Activator - software for automated remote commissioning and monitoring of devices from the Merlin series.
Westermo Monitor - secure portal built into the Activator that provides remote access to router availability, real-time diagnostics, and dashboard report.
Westermo WeConnect - VPN solution that enables secure remote connections to Westermo devices.
